Painted on tin-foil, the amplified details of Young-Wook Han’s portraits have an intense, sometimes off-putting effect, that truly must be seen first hand to appreciate. Han is better know outside of Korea where he has been gleaning accolades and winning awards for the past few years.
Galarie Bhak, in the heart of the Gangnam art district in Seoul, currently have a collection of his work on display. You can visit the gallery between 10 and 6 on weekends and weekdays.

Also showing at Galerie Bhak are the works of Sung-Min Park, fellow photo-realist, who’s still-lifes of herbs and fruit frozen into ice cubes, share surreal a quality with Han’s work, amplifying minute details to striking, graphic effect. The delicate brush work and measured balance of light and shade in his work, reflects his early interest in oriental art, a subject he considered as major in university. Park, a contemporary and fellow graduate of Hong-Ik university, has also had more success abroad than at home.

Galerie Bhak has been open since 1993 and has participated in Art Miami, Art Chicago at Navy Pier, San Francisco International Art
Exposition, Art Palmbeach, Art Brussels, Nicaf in Japan and Art Cologne. Visit there website for more information in English on the gallery and the artists.
