July 24th to 26 Korea will be hosting not just one, but two massive summer rock festivals chock-a-block with local and international bands.  The Jisan Valley Rock Festival will go toe-to-toe with the already well-established Pentaport Festival to compete for fans on the same weekend. The line up boasts big international acts, Weezer, Basement Jaxx, Oasis and Patti Smith, and Korean acts, Lee Han Chul, Crying Nut, Dr. Core 911. JVRF is affiliated with the Fuji Rock Festival in Niigata, Japan the same weekend with some of the same acts.

Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Japan’s top alt-punk band, arrive still riding the wave of last fall’s Surf Bungaku Kamakura, which made it all the way to #2 on Japan’s Top 100.  New York City’s drum and bass best-seller Dieselboy headlines the electronic line up with London-born Seoul resident MC Stride. These acts and a dozen other DJs that will share a separate electronic stage.  The fest will be held just outside of Seoul at Gyeonggi-do’s Jisan Forest Ski Resort. To get there go to Bojeong Station on the Bungdang line to catch a shuttle bus that will run to and from the festival location at scheduled times all weekend.  Tickets range from w88000 to 165000 for all three days and you can camp on location for w10000 a head.  For ticket information call Yellow 9 Entertainment at +82 2 3444 9969 (English operators) or check the website.
