Get Dirty at Mud Fest ’09

The 12th Boryeong Mud Festival kicked off yesterday at Daecheon Beach in Boryeong City, southwest of Seoul . If you’re missing it, or went this weekend and want more time in the mud, this year’s festival runs from July 11th to July 19th. What used to be held over a single weekend is now a nine day festival full of day and nighttime events for all ages. Check the festival website’s (English available) event guide for the complete listing and schedule of main events , contests, exhibitions, and concerts. More than getting muddy, the beach lounging, water sports, seaside restaurants, fireworks, and beach parties make it a tempting day or weekend trip. On July 18th, recent Itaewon additions, The Hive and Ghetto Vox, have organized Beachrout 66, a beach party complete with camp grounds, bonfire, local DJs, and more. More information on Beachrout is available on its Facebook event page. Getting to the Mud Festival is fastest by train. From Seoul’s Yongsan Station take either the Saemaul or Mugunghwa train line to Daecheon Station. There are also bus routes to Boryeong from Seoul’s Nambu, DongSeoul, and Express Bus Terminals.
