Melt Banana Brings the Noise to Seoul

Melt Banana – “Blank Page Of The Blind”Uploaded by neverscene. – Explore more music videos.

For a band that’s intensely experimental, new-wave grindcore isn’t a term that fully explains their sound, but it’s the best we’ve got. From humble beginnings in Tokyo, Melt Banana (MxBx) has toured extensively outside of Japan and worked with other experimental artists, such as Mike Patton, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, and John Zorn. Their frantic breed of noise rock, unexplainable guitar effects, and hyper-screeching vocals makes you think lab mice playing noise punk in a plastic bubble in outer space – yes, its just that type of show.

Melt Banana’s 2005 trip to Seoul packed two Hongdae venues and underground music fans will definitely be all over this month’s shows. Don’t wait for the next awesome band from Japan to come to Seoul. Go buy some earplugs, go to the show, and strap in.  Melt Banana plays Freebird on August 22nd (with We Need Surgery, Swingset Comitttee, Mineri, and Frazer Smith) and an earlier show at Club FF on August 23rd (with Lazy Magnet, Plastic Day, and Galaxy Express). Check out the event’s Facebook page for show times and how to get tickets.

To get to Freebird, go to Sangsu Station (Line 6) Exit 1. Walk straight towards Hongik University to the first 3-way intersection. Cross the street and turn left. Walk straight and turn right at the Buy the Way (onto the street divided by parking spaces). Walk straight to the Prince Edward norebang and turn right. On this alley, take the first alley on your right. Freebird is at the end of its alley on the second floor.

To get to Club FF, go to Sangsu Station (Line 6) Exit 1. Walk straight towards Hongik University. At Club Tool (next to the 7-11) turn left and walk straight (the alley forks, don’t veer left). FF will be on your right under GoGo’s.

You can find both venues on The One One Four’s Seoul map.
