Claude Chabrol Retrospective at Seoul Cinematheque

1291271400 Claude Chabrol Retrospective at Seoul Cinematheque

Starting today and continuing until Sunday, December 26th, the Seoul Cinematheque is presenting an 8 film retrospective of the late French New Wave auteur Claude Chabrol, a director dubbed the French Hitchcock who often made thrillers dissecting the French middle class. Unfortunately, the two early New Wave films that are showing, LE BEAU SERGE (1958) and LES COUSINS (1959), are not listed as including subtitles. Chabrol reached his peak in the late 60s/early 70s, but all of the other films are from Chabrol’s later period (1987-2003) and are not as critically acclaimed. However, it does include two films from the mid-1990s that are often held to be among Chabrol’s best: L’ENFER (1994) and LA CEREMONIE (1995). The other films are: MASKS (1987), THE COLOR OF LIES (1999), NIGHTCAP (2000), and THE FLOWER OF EVIL (2003).
