Mission Statement

The One One Four Mission Statement
March 3, 2009

The One One Four is a daily English language city blog that provides Korea’s English speaking population with up-to-date and informative coverage of what’s going on in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu. We focus on connecting readers to the news, people, and events that will keep them engaged in their communities and enrich their experience in Korea.

At The One One Four we recognize that Korea has an abundance of things to offer its growing English speaking population but is lacking an effective and reliable resources to connect the two. We want to inform our readership of relevant developments in their city, expose them to events and trends in Korea that reflect their interests, and give them access to practical information. Currently there are many blogs and websites on the subject of life in Korea, but we find that the information they present is often geared towards a limited group of expats, and/or from only one point of view. Our goal to is consolidate all of the information that is already available, expand on it and make it available to a broader audience.

The One One Four aims to bridge the gap between the English speaking community and information by offering well presented, accurate, and professional quality content of the highest possible standard. We are not professionals or experts, but we are dedicated to professional standards non-the-less. We strive to be useful to our readership above all things, and to be an important and reliable asset to their lives in Korea by offering them quality information about the cities, towns and communities they live in. We hope to be the first online point of contact for Korea’s English speaking community.

We recognize that people have lives beyond their jobs and even Korea itself and as such we do not cater to any profession or nationality. While we focus our content on living in Korea, we are not bound from covering events, places or people in other parts of the world.

We are not journalists and have no desire to present objective or balanced information. We may discuss politics but we are not political. The One One Four supports no political aims, views or parties in Korea or any other country.

Our perspective strives to be the perspective of our readership at all times by being interactive, user-oriented, user-friendly with as much user-generated content as possible. We want to reflect the diversity of interests, opinions, ages, occupations, incomes, and cultures that compose Korea’s increasingly multicultural English speaking community.

We are focused on improving the lives of our readership no matter their occupation, nationality, ethnicity, age, gender or sexual orientation. We are an equal opportunity employer, queer positive and environmentally conscious. We do not discriminate against any member of the human race in our practices or in our content. We believe in rights of all people to be protected and up held at all times.

We do not believe in any form of censorship. We believe in freedom of though, freedom of conscience and the freedom of all forms of expression. Most importantly we believe in freedom of speech: the right for anyone to express any views they see fit. We also believe that free speech is not unlimited and any explicit, intentional desire to cause harm or offense to anyone through words, images or any means is a clear violation of the spirit of freedom of expression and therefore unacceptable for publication in ours or any other format.
