Tomorrow night at the Daegu Opera House, the Pohang Opera Company will perform “Won’s Mother” a Korean opera based on a play by Doo-jin Cho about a woman grieving for her husband in sixteenth century Andong. Tickets are still available for Friday’s performance at 7:30 and Saturday’s matinée at 3. This is the first and only Korea opera at this year’s Daegu International Opera Festival.

C.M Weber’s “Der Freischutz” will be performed by visiting The Karlsruhe National Theatre of Germany as past of the 2009 Daegu International Opera Festival.  ”Der Freischutz” is considered the first opera of the German Romantic period and is know for its nationalist sentiments and generous emotionality. The opera was first performed in June 1821. This is the first time the opera will be performed in Daegu.

Gaetano Donizetti’s Lelisir D’Amore opens this Wednesday at The Daegu Opera House as part of the 2009 Daegu International Opera Festival. The production is dirested by Italian director Paolo Baiocco in partnership with artist from three different Korean companies. Seoul Writers’ Workshop is proudly launching its 2009 anthology, the second edition of Every Second Sunday, on Saturday October 10th at Berlin (Itaewon) from 1pm-5pm, or at Tony’s Aussie Bar and Bistro (just across the road!) from 8pm til late.
