It is truly a shame how under appreciated some of Korea’s great modern writers are. Huge numbers of novels, poems and plays remain untranslated and hidden from the eyes of millions of readers. Luckily there are some works that are translated well and available over the Internet and in a few store. Ch’ae Man-Shik‘s “My Innocent Uncle” translated by Bruce and Ju-Chan Fulton, Kim Chong-un and Robert Armstrong is one of my favorite of the period. This volume contains three short stories, “My Innocent Uncle”,”A Ready-Made Life”, and “Once Upon a Paddy”. “A Ready-Made Life” is also printed in the anthology Ready-Made Life: Early Masters of Modern Korean Fiction.
