After New York, London, Milan, and Paris, Korean designers will take their turn at showcasing their 2010 Spring/Summer collections at Seoul Fashion Week. This season’s event kicks off today with the 39th Seoul Collection. This is a two-day event organized by the Seoul Fashion Artist’s Association (SFAA) at the EL Tower in Yangjae-dong. For fellas on the larger side, finding even size 110 can be sometimes challenging, especially outside of Seoul. Chilseong Emart, however, has a “Plus-size” section offering a decent variety of T-shirts and Polo-style shirts up to 115. This isn’t exactly a true 2XL, more like a 1.5XL. As you may have guessed, most of these are exactly what you’d expect from Korean style, with loud, flashy designs, but beggars can’t be choosers. They also have a small selection of short pants and dress pants up to 102 cm (10,000 – 29,000). All in all, a good option for the big guys desperate for something to wear during the Summer months.

Trot singers are pretty stylin’ but this cat takes the look to new levels. The white loafers and floral hanky are too hot to handle but the tattooed eye-liner is the cherry on top of this key-lime pie.

What: H&M’s long awaited Korean debut. Rumours were that the Swedish company was set to open its flagship store in Seoul sometime in ’09. Keep this date in mind for next year’s spring shopping. The One One Four will keep you posted.

When the topic of shopping in Seoul comes up in conversation, there tends to be two distinct types: those that thrive and those that are defeated. Those that thrive have no problem scouring Dongdaemun and the like for hours finding gem after gem.  For others, trying to shop here can be a self-depreciating, people-hating, migraine-inducing experience. There are a number of reasons for the critiques of the latter group, but for this shopping-cynic, trying to find  simple, quality, distinctively stylish, yet affordable items drives me insane, and the anarchy of stalls that I have to wade through doesn’t help. If you sympathize, Forever 21 in Myeongdong isn’t the answer to all of our discontent, but it’s definitely a surprising alternative that was able to make even this hater feel giddy about shopping again.
