In light of the week’s Spotted! I chose lentil soup as a great dish to make with things like lentils and cumin avavailabe at Pakistani and Indian shops.  Lentils are a staple at almost all the international markets and the keep forever, so stock up when you go and you can have lentil soup when ever you want. This version is French and works best with brown lentils but you can use red. Make sure you sort through them when you wash them to catch any stones that may be hiding in your lentils. This dish is older than the Bible and is even featured in Genesis when Esau trades his birthright for a bowl of it. Selah!

New York’s Electro-Diva, Lady Gaga, will be returning to Seoul for a solo concert on Aug. 9 at Olympic Hall as part of her “The Fame Ball Tour.” The 23-year-old from Yonkers, New York has topped the charts around the world recently with hits like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” Her neo-eighties, avant-garde/haute couture fashion, and carnivalesque stage shows have people calling her the “new Madonna.” Lady Gaga visited Seoul in May to promote her album “The Fame,” and reported that she was impressed with the energy of the Korean fans and promised to return. Opened in 1998, the Busan Museum of Modern Art, in Haeundae has sixteen galleries, a library, an outdoor sculpture park, and is host to the Busan Biennale every two years. The collection focuses on showcasing Asian art, Korean contemporary art, and local artists from Busan. Tickets cost next to nothing (w700 for adults and w300 for children) and the museum is open 10-6pm (last ticket sold @ 5pm) Tuesday-Sunday (closed Mondays Lunar New Year’s Day, and Chuseok). You can get there by subway Line 2, get off at the Metropolitan Art Museum Station, at go out Exit 5. It is about 100 meters from Exit 5.

On Saturday Aug. 8th, Hongdae’s Sang Sang MaDang Live Hall will host the Rainbow Reggae Festa featuring Korea’s top reggae acts Kingston Rudieska, Windy City and Soul Steady Rockers. Tickets are available online at www.interpark.com for w30000 and at the door for w35000.  Check back this friday when The One One Four sits down with Kingston Rudieska to talk about the band and the growing reggae scene in Korea. Windy City, Kingston Rudieska will also be playing the Ulsan Summer Festival this coming weekend. Also on the bill in Ulsan is The One One Four favorite Crying Nut.

The festival includes a contemporary art exhibit from artists in the region, as well as performances, film screenings, and talks about Latin American culture. The art exhibition is being held at the Korea Foundation Cultural Centre (1st Floor, Joongang Ilbo Building).  Admission to the art exhibit and screenings is free. The film schedule ends Aug 1st.
